It's been identified as a specimen, which happens to have lost two arms, of a rare but known species of squid.

Squid or Cutllefish

In my opinion this squid image is really laughing as us. Its a cuttle fish.

Obviously, a SQUID, not an OCTOPOD. Check the DNA if you're really uncertain about this one. Sadistic cladisticians WILL call this a squid, for the same reason that bug scientists call ants wasps. They are, with or without the drama.

A scientist refers to it as a squid in one the Star-Bulletin article. I wonder what makes him think it's a squid with eight tentacles, and not an octopus with a squid-like mantle.

We should worry about its intelligence! Octopi are extremely intelligent, as are squid and other cephalopods... so I imagine our new octosquid may take over the world shortly.
