We could have stayed much longer, but had to get to Oakland for the A's v. Rangers game @ 1:00pm.

Access was easy and guards were "friendly" -- avoid the guards in the front & back & you'll be in good shape. You gotta climb the chain-link fence (very easy) then enter through a basement window; remove debris from a window well and go on in. Bring a flashlight and find the stairs, then work your way up. A flashlight is needed in the basement -- and a daytime visit is probably best as you're "just another hiker passing through" -- the daylight on floors 1-6 makes visibility and photography MUCH better.

Have fun!

Re: Photos of The Presidio’s Abandoned Public Health Service Hospital

some photos I took here:

http://drudgery.org/?album=...

Re: Photos of The Presidio’s Abandoned Public Health Service Hospital

There is absolutely no exploring in the hospital--I was told this after working there for a while, helping to develop their archaeological outreach program. You can, however, occasionally get tours of the batteries, the jail, and some of the barracks:

http://www.flickr.com/photo...

I wish my photos were even a fraction as cool as Savatier's.

Re: Photos of The Presidio’s Abandoned Public Health Service Hospital

So what you're saying is there's no more exploring allowed in any of these buildings? What a tease!

Re: Photos of The Presidio’s Abandoned Public Health Service Hospital

yep the Presidio hospital used to be a great place to explore. There are also some great abandoned homes nearby that used to be fun. I say used to be because for about 2 years now the area has been heavily guarded w/ 24hr security guards present.

Re: Photos of The Presidio’s Abandoned Public Health Service Hospital

That's an awesome series of photos, thank you for linking to them Scott. I've run by that place a bunch of times, and at the time I would think "what is that?" and then never get around to looking or finding out.

Jason A.
